Small architecture hiding a multitude of stories

In the small town of Radenthein, a large and beautiful architectural story has been created. It is both reserved and simple, as if it has always been there, yet it is entirely new.

Architecture that, due to its simplicity, is not conspicuous in its environment, but rather complements it with its composure and the contextual expression. The newly-created architecture does not wish to be presumptuous. With its programme and purpose, it rather complements the town’s space and existing programme. And how was it created? As a result of an invitation by the investors, joined together into a farmers’ cooperative, to two younger-generation architects, to design a cheese dairy with a small dairy product shop. Complex architecture arose from the basic programme that combines cheese production, from milk delivery in cisterns from the surrounding farms, production process, and the maturing and storing of wheels of cheese in a purpose-built space. The architects presented practically the entire process and almost exclusively used glass surfaces, as other materials might interfere with the process too much. At the same time, they alert us to the beginning of the process right before the entrance, where a shiny stainless-steel cistern is prominently positioned, in which milk from the surrounding farms is collected. The cistern invites the visitor to enter and watch the presentation of the process, understand it and, at the end, to taste the final product and decide to buy it to enjoy later.
